Nails are composed mainly of keratin - protein, which can also be found in the structure of our hair and skin. They can be a good proof that we pay attention to detail, have a great sense of style and courage to experiment with color patterns. But that's not all we can read from them - they are often a sign that something is missing in our body.

1 Poor, dull and splitting nails
In addition to the some beauty treatments which can lead to poor nails with a tendency to be blistered, there are other reasons for the way they look. Often the cause is lack of vitamin A, C or biotin. You should eat healthy sources of these three vitamins everyday and if it’s needed buy some vitamins supplements.

2 Yellow nails
In addition to smoking and fungal infection this colour may be caused by side effects of certain medications. Sometimes, they may also indicate more serious diseases associated with thyroid malfunction or diabetes. If you do not smoke cigarettes, and have noticed a change in the color of your nails towards yellow you should immediately contact your doctor.

3 White spots
The reason is the lack of minerals, mainly zinc and calcium. Try to eat more products rich in these minerals.

4 Blade nails
They are often a symptom of anemia, malnutrition or liver disease. Follow the blood tests that will determine the exact cause, and then use the appropriate dietotherapy.

5 Bluish nails
They are usually caused by hypoxia. It occurs due to malfunctioning of lung or heart disease.

If you want beautiful, long nails remember to eat a healthy balanced diet. You should make sure that you eat proper amount of protein, unsaturated fatty acids, fruits and vegetables. Particularly important are the natural sources of biotin such as egg yolks, sardines, cauliflower, almonds, pecan nuts, carrots. Calcium is also essential for healthy looking nails you can find it in cheese, yogurt or green leafy vegetables such as spinach and kale.
Avoid processed foods, sweetened and saturated fatty acids.
